Abstract At the analysis of soil samples it was concluded, that in Budapest the accumulation of platinum on the soil surface is in the measurable concentration range, although the proportion of automobiles with catalyst is not significant in Hungary. At the moment the environmental impact of the effect is not well investigated, but can be important. The source of platinum are autocatalytic converters, which was proved by measurements from exhaust gas samples (1,29-4,67 μg Pt/km) and from soot samples (0,12-17,5 mg/g). The platinum concentration was measured from road dust materials (0,076-0,667 ng Pt/m2/day) and the presence of platinum in human organism from blood and urine samples was also proved. The results, as the first data measured in Hungary, can be used as basic data for future investigations.
