Abstract [The Large Copper (Lycaena dispar, Haworth 1803) in the Queich valley near Landau in the Palatinate. Choice of host plants and pattern of egg-laying] The first generation of the Large Copper (Lycaena dispar rutilus) has been found on 35 sites in the Queich valley near the city of Landau in the Palatinate. Evidence was gathered by the detection of eggs. The main host plants are Rumex crispus and R. obtusifolius. Two other species of docks R. conglomeratus and the bastard R. hydrolapathum x R. obtusifolius are used, but have minor importance for L. dispar. Most eggs are laid singly on the upper side of leaves. R. hydrolapathum x R. obtusifolius plants showed higher average number of eggs per plant and more eggs were found on the underside of leaves. The findings are discussed in relation to the German Red Lists.
