Abstract | The supply of sustainable heating and power from biomass is a great challenge for the future energy transition. Biomass contributes with 88.87 % to the renewable heat production in Germany [1]. Thus, mitigating energy-related GHG emissions through renewable energy in the heating sector is to a large extent the result of the biomass energy use. At the same time, bioenergy technology systems still have a particularly large potential for optimization. For this reason in the programme “Biomass energy use” [2] funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Germany competitive and climate-friendly bioenergy technologies for a sustainable and efficient generation of power, heat and fuels from biomass, especially from biogenic waste and residues are developed. The paper will give an overview on outstanding exemplary projects within the programme focusing mainly on the production of electricity and useful heat (CHP) at high efficiency with regard to output, environment and costs. |
