Jörg Watzke has been working as lab technician for the ERC project: “CHEMO-RISK” since June 2017. He is responsible for the smooth running of the extraction lab, devices, protocols, and assists students and project members with their lab work.

Based on his working experience at the Water Cluster in Lunz am See, and the independent research group: Plant foods in hominin dietary ecology at the MPI-EVA in Leipzig, Jörg is very experienced with creative lab organization, administration and project management in ecological and biochemical research. His analytical background comprises the extraction and detection of nutrients and macromolecules from plant, animal and environmental samples. Jörg is trained in the set up and operation of analytical instruments to separate, identify, and quantify lipids and fatty acids, tannins, lignins, collagen and fibers (GC, HPLC-ELSD, MS, UV-VIS). Furthermore, gene expression analysis (RNA-genetics), and microscopy for the identification of microorganisms (zoo- and phytoplankton), starch and phytoliths in modern and fossil samples are also part of his expertise. His research interests are based on food web and ecotoxicology research at the plant-animal-interface and the uptake of essential biomolecules and toxicants in organisms.
