Functional Metabolomics       

The metabolome of an organism is influenced by many different genetic and environmental factors. Thus, it depicts a complex and dynamic picture of characteristic properties of the metabolism. Our team focuses on the analysis of metabolites from intestinal microbiome as well as the metabolome of the host (Human samples from cohorts and animal models). We are interested in changes in metabolites due to external stress factors (like diseases, environmental pollutants, chemicals, drugs, diet etc.). Targeted and untargeted metabolomics approaches in combination with other OMCIS-techniques established in our working group (16S rRNA gene profiling, Metatranskriptomics, isotopic tracer analysis) are used to investigate these research questions.
