The Department Lake Research is seeking a scientist experienced in
Remote Sensing of Water Quality
Closing date for applications:  • Location: Leipzig Post-Doc at Dep. Hydrogeology (d/f/m)
At the Department of Hydrogeology at UFZ we seek a motivated, internationally visible Post-Doc (f/m/d; TvöD 13) with strong skills in the characterization and simulation of solute transport, turnover and export from catchments to complement and strengthen our team. Our research focuses on water and solute dynamics in catchments and at the groundwater-surface water interface as well as links between hydrology and biogeochemistry.

Closing date for applications:  • Location: Leipzig PhD Position (f/m/x) in organic matter turnover in soil systems
In the framework of the project "Thermodynamics of microbial turnover of organic compounds in soil - matter and energy flux under varying environmental conditions (water, nutrient availability, temperature)" (TherMic), to be funded by the DFG in the framework of the SPP 2322, we offer a position for a highly motivated PhD student.
Closing date for applications:  • Location: Leipzig Master thesis (f/m/x) – Subject: Microbial induced corrosion in hypersaline ecosystems
Hydrogen (H2) gas is a key player in achieving the energy transition. However, systems for production, distribution and storage have yet to be investigated and improved. Due to their excellent geochemical properties, salt caverns can serve as potential large scale storages for H2. However, H2 introduction might initiate microbial growth based on the reduction of sulphate, which is usually available in excess in salt caverns. Reduction of sulphate results in the formation of hydrogen sulphide, a highly toxic and corrosive gas, which can interfere with the integrity of the storage plant components. It is therefore necessary to investigate its effects on steel spcecimen in hypersaline cultivation setups.
