My research focusses on comparative metalloproteomics study of different anaerobically respiring microorganisms using ICP-MS and LC-MS. Metal ions are abundant in microbial proteins and have a structural, catalytic or electron transferring role. Approx one third of total proteins are metalloproteins that contain at least one metal ion cofactor.
We aim to investigate metalloproteins in respiring anaerobes on three levels: at the level of whole cell extracts, at the level of separated native complexes and at the level of metal cofactors with a focus on Fe-, Co-, Ni- and Mo-containing respiration complexes.
