Strategies for a sustainable assessment of fallow sites, using the example of the former military realty at Potsdam-Krampnitz, under the BMBF research project "Reducing land take and sustainable land management"

Funding:  BMBF

The aim of the project is a combination of valorization methods (sustainable criteria, minimisation of the market risks) with Cost Minimisation methods, so decontamination and remedial action can take place, in order to transfer a non-competitive realty into a minor competitive realty (at the site of the former military realty Potsdam-Krampnitz).
In this project, methods will be developed based on inventory and alternative methods will be intergrated, as to ensure cost minimisation. Furthermore, optimization and testing of methods will be performed on-site. In addition, useful theoretical scenarios should be investigated, that consider the economical, ecological and planning impacts of the project.
TThe project contributes to the realization of the aims of the BMBF Main Focus of Research, "Research into sustainability", especially towards the area "Research for reducing land take and sustainable land management" (published on 26.10.2004).
The MET Department participates in sub-project 5, which deals with new strategies for the management of soil and groundwater contaminations. Here, new Direct-Push technologies are applied on soil, groundwater and ground-air sampling techniques, as well as in monitoring demands.
