Overview of the 5 Incubator-platforms

Helmholtz Incubator at UFZ

HIDA Logo

The Helmholtz Information and Data Science Academy (HIDA) aims at establishing and making accessible a broad knowledge of methods and technologies of Information & Data Science throughout the entire Helmholtz Association. This is achieved through networking activities and coordination, education and training as well as a central meeting place in the HIDA office in Berlin. Also, HIDA connects and serves as the roof to 6 newly founded data science research schools within the Helmholtz Association. HIDA has a lot to offer: Next to training courses, it organizes events such as hackathons and career days as well as exchange programmes.

Helmholtz.AI Logo

The goal of the Helmholtz Artifical Intelligence Cooperation Unit (HAICU aka Helmholtz.AI) is to become a driver for applied AI through the development and distribution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods across all Helmholtz centres, effectively combining AI-based analytics with Helmholtz' unique research questions and datasets. It consists of six local units, each representing one of the six research fields of the Helmholtz Association and hosting research groups and consultant teams. Helmholtz.AI offers calls for research proposals, a consulting service to support scientists in AI-projects, workshops, seminars and much more.

HIP Logo

Within the Helmholtz Association there exists a rich portfolio of expertise covering research on novel imaging modalities, experimental work using large-scale research facilities, expertise in mathematics and computer science related to imaging. The Helmholtz Imaging Platform HIP aims to leverage this potential, enabling synergies across imaging modalities and imaging applications. The platform consists of two components: (i) a HIP Core Team providing scientific support and operating a technological platform supporting imaging science within the Helmholtz Association. The Core Team further organizes the (ii) HIP Imaging Network, comprising experts from all related disciplines within and outside of the Helmholtz Association.

HMC Logo

The Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) has set the goal of advancing qualitative enrichment of research data by means of metadata – and implementing this approach across the whole Helmholtz Association. The platform brings together the scientific expertise on metadata from the domains in special Metadata Hubs of the Helmholtz research areas. Helmholtz-wide services offer consulting and infrastructures for storage, re-use and exchange of metadata. They are made available to the hubs for community-specific adaptation and utilization.

HIFIS Logo
HIFIS aims to ensure an excellent information environment for outstanding research in all Helmholtz research fields and a seamless and performant IT-infrastructure connecting knowledge from all centres. HIFIS will also support the development of research software with a high level of quality, visibility and sustainability. To achieve this, HIFIS works in three Competence Clusters which are distributed throughout different Helmholtz research centers, a Cloud Services Cluster (a federated platform for proven first class cloud services), a Backbone Services Cluster (high-performance trusted network infrastructure with unified basic services) and a Software Services Cluster (platform, training and support for high-quality, sustainable software development).
