COMEXTECH
A combined exploration technique for the delineation of subsurface structures and the assessment of rock parameters
Subproject UFZ: Combination of different seismic methods to analyses construction sites
Duration: 2006-2009
Funding: BMBF/DFG - Geotechnologien
Partners: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Geotomographie GmbH
The utilization of an area of land as a construction site raises some important technical issues and can encompass certain financial risks. To assess appropriate construction methods and to get a reliable idea of the associated costs, precocious and accurate descriptions of the land is needed. As a consequence, there is a need for innovative technologies. Of particular importance for the characterization of a construction site is the spatial continuous characterization of the potential of ground settlement.
Due to physical reason, seismic methods are especially suitable.
Within the frame of the project, different seismic methods, i.e. Surface Wave Seismics and Refraction Tomography will be (further) developed and combined with geotechnical investigation methods.
As a result compatible applicable measuring methods, instruments and interpretation software will be available, that allows a reliable exploration of ground structures as well as the determination of realistic values of soil classification.
