The discussion in the first advisory board meeting in the Leipzig BlueGreen project underlines the relevance of promoting blue-green infrastructures at neighbourhood level. The transfer of knowledge to the offices of the City of Leipzig is very important in order to incorporate the integration of current research results into planning as early as possible.

The intensive cooperation with the offices of the city of Leipzig within the framework of regular planning rounds has already led to the first important results in terms of knowledge transfer after only a few months. Also due to the smooth communication with the planning offices active in the neighbourhood, the project was able to use the latest drafts of the buildings, landscape and infrastructure planning for initial simulations in the project. Leipziger BlauGrün is now supporting the master planning in the coming months, in particular with simulation calculations for precipitation events and energy concepts. The aspects of green irrigation, especially under drought conditions, as well as the topic of "green cooling effects" and groundwater use were introduced by the project as new aspects in the planning rounds and confirmed by the project advisory board as important focal points.

In summer 2020, the research green roof at the UFZ was fully commissioned and is now an important part of the research infrastructure in the project. The retention green roof carport at the UFZ is currently under construction. From 2021, important key figures on the water and energy balance will be generated here and irrigation experiments will be carried out. Parallel to this, the city of Leipzig is installing tree trenches in Kasselerstraße, where the project is participating with measurement technology and further important key figures will be collected next year.
