Project Goals Phase I

The project "Leipzig BlueGreen - Blue-Green Neighbourhood Development in Leipzig" is funded with 2.8 million € within the framework of the BMBF's funding guideline "Resource Efficient Urban Neighbourhoods".

The project aims to achieve:

  • Significant relief of the central sewage system.
  • Improvement in energy efficiency and the microclimate.
  • Resilient management of heavy rainfall.
In concrete terms, this is demonstrated by the example of the large-scale project "Eutritzscher Freiladebahnhof", on which a drainage-free and resource-efficient urban quarter is being built. Essential here is the development of new transferable blue-green technologies and planning tools. For this purpose, multifunctional infrastructures of water and energy management as well as adapted communication and decision-making structures will be tested on a pilot basis for the first time. The basis for this is a co-design process between the municipal, scientific and economic project participants.
