Research topic

Ecosystem Services (ES) supply and demand relationships across a gradient of Regions of Chile. I will assess tradeoffs, telecoupling and relations with land tenure patterns for certain ES, thereby analyzing the inequalities that arise in the supply and demand of ES when land uses/cover change over time and space.

At UFZ since

September 2018

How did you learn about the UFZ?

I searched for scholarships in the area of Ecosystem Services research and I found a cooperation between UFZ and DAAD (my current scholarship financer). Then I began to read about UFZ and got increasingly interested, I applied for the PhD scholarship I am.

Why did you come to the UFZ?

Top research, top supervision, top facilities.

What do you like about the city you live in?

I like the open spaces of Leipzig, the green spaces and the surroundings. On the street normally there is space space for everyone, cyclists, car drivers and pedestrians. Public transportation is also ok.

How do you like it at the UFZ / in HIGRADE?

Even though I don’t work directly at UFZ, I work at iDiv, I like the fact that it is like a knowledge industry. At first is a bit overwhelming but then one gets used to it.

I like to be outside! I have dedicated myself in the last years to rock-climbing, it is certainly my favorite activity. I also like to go for a go in the mountains. My home country, Chile, offers good conditions for both. Further, I like to play football and other team sports.
