Work package 5: Farmers' behaviour

In WP5, the behavior of farmers will be empirically investigated and, in cooperation with WP6, a module for the agent-based model developed there will be designed to model farmers' decisions. In order to be able to model these decisions, empirical data (questionnaire or interview-based) must be collected. These should provide information on the extent to which farmers are willing to engage in multifunctional farming and the limits of their scope for action to realize this willingness.
An initial study investigated the understanding of farmers' roles. To this end, interviews were conducted on the various social, cultural, ecological and economic functions that farmers fulfill in our society. Among other things, the farmers interviewed provided information on which of these functions are particularly important to them. Three different perspectives on the societal role of farmers were derived from this data.
Future studies will focus on the influence of uncertainties on farmers' decisions.
