BirdBusiness serves as an interface with the business and financial sectors:
- Support in identifying sites in biodiversity-sensitive areas
- Identification and management of risks and opportunities in business operations, supply chains, and investments
- Collection of site-specific data for reporting (e.g., CSRD and TNFD)
- Support in developing strategies for restoration and nature credits (e.g., EU Nature Restoration Regulation)
Reporting requirements and financial institutions increasingly demand information on how companies impact and depend on nature (e.g. CSRD and TNFD). Bird Business aims to enable robust, science-based biodiversity assessments using spatial Birddiversity products with a clear focus on increasing the value of biodiversity data for decision making and business steering.
The project Bird Business provides insights on how biodiversity products based onbird monitoring data can be used for identifying and tracking economic activities in biodiversity sensitive areas. Such information on the condition of biodiversity near sites of own operations, supply chains or assets can help businesses and financial institutions in taking biodiversity into account and guide the developing more nature positive strategies. This includes adjusting management practices or investment decisions for reducing impacts on species and ecosystems, but also the use of nature-based solutions for driving more sustainable business models.
Such applications biodiversity products based onbird monitoring data can be also useful for informing the implementation of policies such as the EU Nature Restoration Regulation and the design of Nature Credits. Therefore, the work under Bird Business is supporting the EU Expert Group on Nature Credits. Building effective public-private partnerships are essential for ensuring a more sustainable economy and society.
