Animation Video: Human migration and global environmental change

Against the backdrop of the scientific debate about understanding the causalities between environmental change and human migration, this animated video (06:18 min) presents key results of the MigSoKo project.

Global environmental change is expected to increase the pressure on vulnerable communities (in the so-called Global South) and to interact with already existing migration drivers. However, the relationship between environmental change and migration is not a simple cause-and-effect relationship and strongly depends on the local context. In this video we show how environmental change can influence people’s aspirations, abilities and the need to migrate, and hence, can both trigger and inhibit migration.
