Project Meetings

All EDA-EMERGE fellows and partners met regularly in project meetings, to promote a good and close  cooperation in the work packages and between the fellows and the different EDA-EMERGE institutes.

Final Project Meeting

The final EDA-EMERGE project meeting was held at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig (Germany) directly after the EDA-EMERGE PhD-student conference on the 1st of July 2015.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the current state of ongoing work packages and define remaining tasks. The project manager gave an overview of the overall project progress and informed all Partners about duties and deadlines. The final status of the higher tier EDA activities was presented (WP6) and publications of the EDA-EMERGE results were planned. EDA-EMERGE data will be provided to the public, the data reporting in two important databases (MassBank, EMPODAT) was planned. Further, the meeting was dedicated to present and discuss the outcome of the individual projects of each Fellow in order to summarise the overall outcome of the project.

Project Meeting 7

The seventh EDA-EMERGE project meeting was held at ISS in Rome (Italy) on the 5th of December 2014.

The meeting was dedicated to present and discuss the progress of the specific work packages within EDA-EMERGE and to define remaining tasks. The results of the European Demonstration Program (WP5) were presented and on this basis several scientific publications were planned. Afterwards, the outcome of all higher tier EDA activities (WP6) was presented and discussed. Furthermore, the leaders of the work packages bioanalytical tools (WP1), chemical toolbox (WP2) and hyphenated tools (WP3) reported on the progress made in the respective work packages. So far, new endpoints increasing ecotoxicological relevance, innovative chemical tools and fractionation approaches combined with analytical tools, increasing throughput and analytical power of EDA were developed.

Finally, a guided tour took place, introducing research fields and lab techniques of the Italian Institute ISS (Istituto Superiore di Sanità).

Project Meeting 6

The sixth EDA-EMERGE project meeting was held at IRB in Zagreb (Croatia) from 3-4 July 2014.

All fellows gave oral presentations on the progress of their PhD, followed by short discussions on their individual research projects. Afterwards, a private meeting between the advisory board and all the fellows took place, in order to give the advisory board the opportunity to evaluate the progress of the individual projects and learn about needs and problems of the fellows. Subsequent to the meeting, recommendations of the advisory board were formulated in a report.

Furthermore, the current status of the "European Demonstration Program" and the summary of all planned higher tier status were presented by the workpackage leaders.

Project Meeting 5

The fifth project meeting was held together with the higher tier EDA workshop at INERIS in Verneuil-en-Halatte (France) from 19-20 March 2014.

The first day of the meeting focused on the outcome of the "European Demonstration Program" (EDP). Therefore, first results of chemical and toxicological analysis were presented and discussed for the conducted sampling campaigns in five different river basins within Europe. The next steps for the EDP and the contributions of each partner were planned. Furthermore, the new project management was introduced to all EDA-EMERGE partners and organizational issues regarding secondments, training and outreach activities were discussed.

During the higher tier EDA workshop, planned follow-up studies for each river basin were presented by the researchers in charge. In a common discussion round all future higher tier activities were discussed and adjusted.

Mid-Term Review and Project Meeting 4

The Mid-Term meeting was held jointly with the fourth project meeting at eawag in Dübendorf (Switzerland) from 4-5 July 2013.

For the Mid Term Review, Giuliana Donini the project officer from the Research Executive Agency (REA) and Mira Petrovic were invited as external expert reviewers. All EDA-EMERGE partners and associated partners were represented by the scientists in charge, giving short presentations on their role within the project. The EDA-EMERGE fellows presented first results of their individual research projects. Dr. Werner Brack gave a presentation on the overall progress of EDA-EMERGE. Furthermore, an advisory board meeting and supervisory board meeting was conducted. Finally, an internal meeting of the fellows and REA took place, resulting in recommendations and suggestions from the REA representatives.

During the project meeting the implementation of the common sampling campaign "European Demonstration Program" was set.
