Second annual status conference (10.9.–11.9.2009)

Annual status conferences play an important role as major milestones. The second annual status meeting on September 10 and 11, 2009 is dedicated to gain insights on the progress and status of the initiative and its research topics. It likewise contained presentations and discussion of the (then) 17 PhD involved in the project. With the presence of colleagues from several other countries of the region, the meeting likewise served as a forum to discuss the potentials for a transfer of the research concept to other megacities.

International scientific conference: "Megacities: Risk, Vulnerability and Sustainable development", Leipzig, Germany (7.9. – 9.9. 2009)

This international conference offered for the first time, a platform for exchange within the worldwide Megacity research community. The conference with more than 200 participants included about 100 presentations, three key note speeches, a poster session and a young researchers’ workshop.

The conference invited interdisciplinary contributions of worldwide regions from all fields of urban research such as: land use, social polarization, security, energy, water and sanitation, waste, mobility and transportation, air quality, health, food supply, economic productivity, climate, ecology. Interdisciplinary contributions were expected to present research that connects to any of the three main themes Risk, Vulnerability and Sustainable development.
