Maps of tropical forest fragmentation 2000 + 2010 0 11501

Project
The fragmentation of tropical forests
Description
We analyzed the dynamics of forest fragmentation for the entire tropics using high-resolution forest cover maps and produced three types of maps for each tropical continent and for the years 2000 and 2010: edge map, core map, matrix map (in total 18 maps).

The edge map contains the amount of forest edge area, the core map contains the amount of forest core area and the matrix map contains the amount of non-forest area. For these maps, the high-resolution forest edge area analysis (30 m) was aggregated to a scale of 50 x 50 km pixel. Unit of edge, core, and non-forest area: m2.

Description of the data sources, visualization of the maps and methodological description of the data processing, are in the publication Fischer et al. (2021). Accelerated forest fragmentation leads to critical increase in tropical forest edge area. Science Advances
