Sustainable Development for Water Supply: Decision Support System "Integrated Water Resources Management Concept for the Federal District"

Introduction

All the data generated and simulation models developed by the different groups within the project will be consolidated and integrated in a decision support system (DSS) that can act as a tool to assist decision makers in Brasília in designing and optimizing the future water supply and sanitation system in the Federal District. The system will consist of a GIS based water resources management model which is able to integrate the information stored in the data base with the simulation models developed by each subproject. The model should be able to perform integrated water resources planning assessments, based on future scenarios, within a user friendly interface, being able to produce outputs as maps, charts and tables.

Objectives

  • According to a multi-criteria evaluation method, evaluate the existing GIS-based multi-parameter water management models; select a model which will fit best into the overall conditions and objectives set by the project
  • Adapt the selected model considering the specific conditions of drinking water supply in the Federal District
