TAD - Atlas der Tagfalter und Widderchen Deutschlands
Distribution of Butterflies and Burnets in Germany

While we already know a lot about the ecology and endangerment of butterflies in Germany, a comprehensive work on their nationwide distribution has been missing until now. In order to close this large gap, the present project "Tagfalter-Atlas Deutschland" was initiated. The aim of this project is to create a reliable long-term basis for research on the distribution of this animal group in Germany and beyond.
The project is carried out in close cooperation with the Tagfalter-Monitoring Deutschland (TMD).

The patronage of the project lies with the

  • GfS-Gesellschaft für Schmetterlingsschutz ((Society for Butterfly Conservation)

It is supported by the following institutions:

  • Helmholtz-Centre for Environmenatl Research – UFZ, Halle
  • Zentrum für Biodokumentation - ZfB, Schiffweiler

The data are compiled centrally at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ and converted there if necessary. On this basis, spatially and temporally scaled working maps of the relevant butterfly species are created and reviewed and, if necessary, corrected by corresponding contact persons in the individual federal states.
