Current Research Topic
My current research project is within the framework of Biodiversity Exploratories in the project Seed Addition and Disturbance Experiment. Currently, I am part of the team of Dr. Tesfaye Wubet, to analyze the soil microbial (Bactria and Fungi) communities in terms of their diversity and community composition of grass land and forest ecosystems along land use gradients in the framework of Seed Addition and Disturbance Experiment (SADE) in three German Biodiversity Exploratories.
PhD Research Topic
"Links between surface and subsurface fungal communities along different land use gradients in Hainich Critical Zone Exploratory"
This work is the sub-project (BIODIV3) in German Research Foundation funded Collaborative Research Center AquaDiva ( CRC AquaDiva ).
Short Description
In the project titled "Towards functional microbial subsurface biodiversity research (BIODIV3)", we want to unravel the hidden diversity within the Critical Zone (CZ) in the Hainich groundwater observation transects. At UFZ-Halle, employing a pyrosequencing approach, we will target bacteria and fungi. Links between surface and surface microbial communities will be identified by comparing the microbial communities from soil and groundwater in the lower and upper aquifers within the Critical Zone (CZ). Additionally material from the shallow and deep aquifer will be analyzed using shotgun sequencing of the metagenome.
