Marten Winter - guess who I am

Research interests

After a half year PostDoc stay at the university of Fribourg (CH) in the group of Sven Bacher (within the Eu-project Pratique; My topic was/is: Which traits could favour plant-, insect species and pathogens, having an high ecological impact on native plants and/or ecosystems and animals?), I'm currently work on a concept to observe effects of climate change on biodiversity in Saxonia (Germany).

Generally I'm a zoological taxonomist in macroecologists clothing with a species invasion cap who worked the last years also with plants and just started to increase the animal percentage again. :O)

My main research areas are macroecology, invasion biology and species niche dynamics and diversity patterns. Interesting but rather technical aspects of my work are database programming, combining species inventories (data mining) and monitoring schemes. I was involved in the European project DAISIE and since my diploma time I'm still interested in the ecology and distribution of the North American raccoon (Procyon lotor).

However, some interesting aspects I'm particularly interested in at the moment are the influence of introductions and extinctions and their effect on taxonomical, functional and phylogenetical diversities at different across time and different geographical scales.
