Marten Winter - Bode Valley (Harz) 2011

Research interests

For the next years I will be involved in the upcoming 5th IPCC report as chapter scientist for the Working Group II in the chapter 4 "Terrestrial and Inland Water systems". I will support the work of the coordinating lead author Josef Settele.

At the moment I'm also leading a project for the Saxonian Environmental Agency, where we (i) analyze extensively their species database for effects of climate change and (ii) develop a scheme for monitoring effects of climate change on Saxonian biodiversity.

Generally I'm a zoological taxonomist in macroecologists clothing with a species invasion cap who worked the last years also with plants and just started to increase the animal percentage again. :O)

particularly research focus:
- macroecology, invasion biology, niche dynamics, biodiversity pattern
- effects of global change on evolutionary and functional compositions of communities and its implications for ecosystem functioning
- integration pf phylogenetic diversity into nature conservation
- observed effects of climate change
- biodiversity monitoring
- ecology and distribution of the North American Raccoon (Procyon lotor)
