COSMOS

4th Workshop

May 5-8, 2014 in Leipzig (Germany)

A joint workshop of the COSMOS-project, TERENO, and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research.

COSMOS abbreviates the COsmic-ray Soil Moisture Observing System

Objectives

COSMOS is a young and promising technology for non-contact moisture measurements with a footprint of about 600 m in diameter and 10-50 cm in depth. The fourth COSMOS workshop will focus on
  1. progress & challenges of cosmic-ray neutron monitoring,
  2. applications of the cosmic-ray probe to Earth Sciences and hydrology, including agriculture (eg. monitoring irrigation), meteorology (eg. weather forecasting), civil engineering (eg. slope stability), and
  3. the strategic development of a global COSMOS network in Europe, America, Australia, Asia, Africa.

The workshop consists of invited and contributed oral presentations plus poster presentations (depending on the number of submissions).

We are looking forward to an exciting gathering of scientists interested in the cosmic-ray method and its application, as well as representatives from other international and national environmental research networks.

Special Issue

As a follow-up to the workshop, we will consider collecting contributions for possible submission as a special volume dedicated to the COSMOS workshop contributions within a notable hydrological journal.
