Focus:

Assessment of the water resources

Investigations of geogenic and anthropogenic influences on groundwater and surface water in semi-arid and arid regions by combining several advanced hydrogeological methods.


Research objectives:

  • Investigations on the salification processes of surface reservoirs (Lake Tiberias, Israel)
  • Clarification of the hydrochemical evolution of fresh ground waters
  • Regions: Jordan Valley, Dead Sea region; Israel: Wadi Qilt, Wadi Arugot, Jordan: Wadi Zarqa Main, Wadi Al Arab and Wadi Ibn Hammad


Methods:

  • hydro chemical analysis of horn elements, trace elements (rare earth elements including yttrium), stable isotopes (O-18, H-2, S-34, C-13, N-15) and radioactive isotopes (H-3 and H-3 / He-3)
  • hydraulic analysis of aquifer systems by temperature / density sensitive numerical flow and transport models (FeFlow, OGS)
  • Determination of groundwater recharge by means of a ground-water household model (J2000) in combination with remote sensing information
  • further studies on groundwater flow behaviour and groundwater volume
  • Monitoring strategies with remote sensing
