Abstract Science communication in citizen science means more than transfer of knowledge or outreach. It involves knowledge exchange and collaboration and needs to bridge the discourses of science and society. Stories can be a powerful tool to communicate the aims or results of a project and thereby motivate participants and create meaningful links between science and society. During the Austrian citizen science Conference
2017 researchers applied a storytelling approach to their presentations following a short storytelling guide that we propose in this paper.
