Abstract The use and combination of geophysical methods for the geomorphological characterization of subsurface
features is becoming increasingly important. In order to delineate a filled in abandoned meander in the
North of Saxony, Germany a MASW survey was conducted. A combination of different offsets provides
reasonable results for delineating fluvial-geomorphological features of both, shallow and deep parts of the
resulting pseudo-2D S-Wave velocity sections. Furthermore a shot-geometrical dependency for surface
wave seismic can be inferred. The MASW data were compared and discussed with Direct Push invasive
measurements, i.e. cone penetration testing (CPT) and soil core sampling.
