Abstract The anthracycline antibiotics are among the most valuable antitumor antibiotics in children cancer. Anthracyclines are essential components of the therapeutic protocols despite of their possible severe cardiotoxic side effect. In order to prevent children from the development of congestive heart failure long-term observations of the heart function are needed during and after the treatment. Non-invasive diagnostic methods must be preferred. The reliability of measurements of the dipole moment of the heart from the body surface by the NELSON-lead system is demonstrated in 3 cases of malign blood diseases treated with anthracyclines. Acute dilatation of the ventricles following immediately the application of the drug can be proved by electrocardiological examinations as well as late damages of the heart by loss of myocardial cells months or even years after the treatment has been finished.
