After a brief introduction to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), this paper presents its main activities in the context of insect trends. This is based on the key results of the pollination assessment which was completed in 2016. The focus is on trends of pollinators, the reasons for mostly negative trends and in particular the options to counteract those trends, which were elaborated by a team of some 100 authors.
