Research interests

I am an ecologist with a broad interest in biodiversity distribution and conservation. In my research I combine field monitoring data and laboratory genetic analysis to assess changes in patterns of biodiversity distribution in natural and anthropogenic environments. I have experience both in the molecular lab, as well as collecting biological samples in the field.

I actively collaborate with the Brazilian Long-term Ecological Research sites in the Amazon (PELD IAFA and PELD Sudoeste do Amazonas, where we investigate environmental, anthropogenic and climate effects on biodiversity changes.

Over the past two years, I've also been working at the intersection of biodiversity research and research data management. In the project ADVANCE, we have developed a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) metadata schema focused on biodiversity monitoring. As a GO FAIR Foundation fellow, I assist people and organizations in making FAIR implementation choices.

Currently, I am involved in establishing a FAIR database for the nationwide project Otterland, aiming at improving the conservation status of the Eurasian otter population in Germany.
