My research focuses on anaerobic/anoxic microbial processes, e.g., anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) and organohalide respiration. The aim is to understand the mechanisms controlling the behaviors of the responsible microorganisms and their interaction with the environment. Techniques involved include anaerobic cultivation, physiological characterization, biochemical assays, proteomics. Several high customized continuous reactors cultivating planktonic anammox bacteria are in operation since 2016.
