EEMonRequest
Further development of the monitoring of the environmental compatibility of the energy transition in the electricity sector against the backdrop of the accelerated expansion of renewable energies
Project description:
The expansion of renewable energies has an impact on species, habitats and landscapes. Whether the expansion of renewable energies is compatible with nature depends on a variety of factors. In this context, the EE-Monitor web application (https://ee-monitor.de/), in the past funded by two projects (FKZ 3515 82 2700, FKZ 3520 86 0501) and developed by the UFZ, already provides a scientifically sound information basis for the social debate on the environmental compatibility of the expansion of renewable energies in Germany.
The EEMonRequest research project builds on the content of the web-based applications and tools of the EE-Monitor. The aim of EEMonRequest is to take account of the accelerated expansion of renewable energies through further development and to analyse the relevance of the conflicts between the expansion of renewable energies and nature conservation depicted in the EE-Monitor on the one hand and to answer current questions on the environmental compatibility of the energy transition based with the help of data.
The results of the research project will be embedded in the established structures of the web applications of the EE-Monitor and are intended to provide its users with systematic and targeted information and expert's interpretations on the nature compatibility of the expansion of renewable energies.
