Dear limnologists, dear members of DGL and SIL,

the German Society for Limnology (DGL) in collaboration with the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) cordially invites you to DGL‘s 36th annual meeting from September 28th to October 2nd, 2020. The conference motto “When extremes become normality - inland waters under climate change Elbe flood came into special focus beyond the scientific community with the past two extremely dry summers in Central Europe. Climate change alters both the global and local water cycles and leads to an increasing frequency of hydrological extremes such as floods and droughts. Elbe drought

These extremes impact not only the communities of water-dwelling organisms, but also our usage of lakes, rivers and groundwater. This topic is hence of high relevance to all limnologists, independently of their focus on applied aspects or fundamental research.

We invite contributions across the fields of classical limnology, organismic biology and ecosystem research, as well as innovative, inter-disciplinary approaches to fundamental research and applications. We are looking forward to welcoming you in September in Leipzig to discuss current and ground-breaking projects across all limnological disciplines.

Sincerely, the conference steering committee,
Prof. Dr. Markus Weitere, UFZ
Prof. Dr. Dietrich Borchardt, UFZ
Dr. Karsten Rinke, UFZ

and the Organisation Committee
