Green heat - heat supply of the "city of the future" and the region in the context of transformation and adaptation - Project: Integration of aspects of social innovations and environmental system analysis into the overall concept

Project description: The overall objectives of the alliance are the formulation of a concept (the WIR! concept) and the formation of a network for the development, design and implementation of innovative holistic approaches as well as efficient, ecologically sustainable and participatory structures for a climate-neutral transformation of the urban and regional heat energy supply in the WIR! region on the basis of renewable energy sources. This is intended to support a twofold structural change: on the one hand, the technological and employment policy reorganisation of an energy industry that has so far focused on lignite and, on the other hand, the comprehensive transformation of infrastructures for heat energy supply through the decision to make the district heating supply of the city of Leipzig independent of the coal sector as early as autumn 2022, which will have a serious impact on the region. The planned WIR! concept is intended to address innovations in technology, organization, services and business models as well as diverse social innovations. The technological innovations consist mainly in the systemic interaction of established supply technologies and in the scaling above individual buildings but significantly below centralized, remote network-based solutions.
