Curriculum Vitae
Riccardo joined the department of Effect-Directed analysis in June 2013. He was a postdoctoral researcher in the BMBF project NeuroBox. Within the project, he was in charge of the identification of neuroactive compounds by using an effect-directed analysis (EDA) approach and Danio rerio embryos.
His personal research focus is the application of the DarT (Danio rerio test) in ecotoxicology and EDA by using novel molecular, behavioral and statistical tools. He is especially interested in the detection and identification of neurotoxicity and neuroactive compounds in environmental samples.
Riccardo obtained a bachelor degree in Biology at the University of Perugia (Italy) in 2010. Between 2012 and 2013, he spent 9 months in the Department of Bioanalytical Ecotoxicology (UFZ Leipzig) working as a student assistant. In the same year, he received his master degree in Molecular Biology with a thesis on “Different sensitivity for Azinphos methyl in embryonic stages of the zebrafish (Danio rerio): the role of toxicokinetic and stage-specific susceptibility”. In September 2018, Riccardo got his PhD degree from the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Sciences and Natural Sciences at the RWTH Aachen University with a thesis on “Novel analytical tools for the toxicological and chemical characterization of aquatic sediments: the incidence of pesticide mixtures and neuroactive chemicals in EU-river basin”.
In 2016, he was awarded by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) as “Best Young Scientist 2016” for a poster on “Detection of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors in water samples from Novi Sad (Serbia) using effect-directed analysis and Danio rerio embryos”.
Riccardo was organizer and co-chair in the session “Fish model species in human end environmental toxicology” at SETAC 2017 and 2018. He was an active member in the project SOLUTIONS and he is also taking active part in the NORMAN working group meetings.
Since March 2020 he works as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp.
