Working Group Stable Isotopes and Biogeochemical Cylces - SIBC

Oliver Spott

The general workscope of our research team is focused on the N- and C-cycle in soils with respect to source and sink functions of climatic relevant gases such as CO2, CH4 and N2O, respectively. Based on experimental and model approaches in different space and time scales soil functions shall be characterised which allow an assessment and control of soil immanent N- and C-fluxes. Work being undertaken is focused on investigations concerning a separation and quantification of N-gases, produced during nitrification and denitrification (NO, N2O, N2), by means of a 15N-tracer-technique. Gained knowledge will be used for the development of sustainable land use strategies.
