Wissenstransfer/UFZ

Knowledge Transfer

The goal of our knowledge transfer activities is to provide citizens and decision makers from economics, politics and civil society with a wide spectrum of useful knowledge and by working together with various stakeholders and know-how networks to come up with joint solutions. The main beneficiaries of the UFZ’s knowledge transfer are decision makers in national and international public organisations that are responsible for implementing environmental and natural resources policies, as well as the general public who are interested in environmental issues. The examples given below provide you with a first impression of our activities in knowledge transfer.

If you have any questions about our topics or if you are looking for an expert, e.g. for an environmental study or assessment, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Knowledge Transfer Activities

ExxonMobil - Dialog and information for fracking

The company EXXONMobil entrusted an independent expert panel headed by the UFZ to analyse the environmental and safety risks of fracking in 2011. With participation of UFZ scientists a study was carried out and processes for dialogue and information were developed. The project concluded successfully in 2012 by giving suggestions for future activities.

NeFo - German Science-Policy Platform of Biodiversity Research

The Network-forum for biodiversity research Germany funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has been coordinated and headed (Forum) by the UFZ since 2009. It enables the transfer of information and knowledge between different scientific areas, disciplines and policy for a better understanding of biodiversity’s complexity and interrelations with the socio-cultural sphere. One focus is supporting the German contribution to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

WWQA - World Water Quality Assessment

The UN Environmental Program realised a preliminary study to globally evaluate the water quality of surface water from 2012 to 2015. It was coordinated by the UFZ and as a result, at the present time a report addressing investors, water authorities and scientists is prepared. It will contain a data and model-driven analysis of the current situation as well as approaches for regional problems with water quality and innovative technical solutions for water purification.
