Environmental Education

The department of environmental education at the UFZ aims first and foremost to promote young researchers.

School pupils from year 9 and above can experience a day in the life of a scientist in the UFZ teaching lab, find out about current research topics, learn about what the job of a laboratory technician involves and try out some laboratory equipment.

In a new cooperation with the Bästleinstraße nursery and pre-school, the UFZ is now giving little researchers the chance to find out what environmental research is about. Different habitats are explored and interactions in nature are observed in a way that is easy for children to understand. Research started this year with the planting of blackberry bushes. The idea is for the little researchers to enjoy this research project and ultimately be able to eat the fruits of their labour.
