Jobs and PhDs

Closing date for applications:  • Location: Leipzig Postdoc Position (m/f) in Proteomics
We are seeking an enthusiastic Postdoc to undertake global and targeted proteomic analysis to define immune cell function in the Department of Molecular Systems Biology starting at 1st July 2018. The successful candidate will study xenobiotic-driven modulation(s) of the immune response, immune cell function and signalling pathways using mass spectrometry and molecular and cellular technics.
Closing date for applications:  • Location: Halle Project Coordinator (m/f)
Within the DFG funded priority programme (PP) „Rhizosphere spatiotemporal organisation – a key to rhizosphere functions“ we are seeking for a motivated scientist (m/f) for supporting the speaker of the PP in all issues related to coordination. The overarching goal of the PP is to identify spatiotemporal patterns of biological, chemical and physical parameters in the rhizosphere; the mechanisms responsible for their development and their relevance for plant resource acquisition, plant health, soil carbon sequestration and soil structure development (http://www.ufz.de/spp-rhizosphere/).
Closing date for applications:  • Location: Leipzig PhD position (m/f)
The project is embedded in the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Incubator pilot project Sparse2Big: imputation and fusion for massive sparse data, which develops novel computational approaches for the efficient analysis of single cell (sc) genomics data.
Closing date for applications:  • Location: Halle PhD position (m/f)
Within the DFG funded priority programme “Rhizosphere spatiotemporal organisation – a key to rhizosphere functions – SPP 2089” we are seeking for a motivated PhD student. The sub-project aims at investigating the spatio-temporal development of maize gene expression patterns during early rhizosphere development in soil columns as well as during maize production in the field. Feedback loops between gene expression regulation in maize roots, the structure and function of root development, root hair formation, exudate production, plant nutrient levels, soil properties, and the rhizosphere microbiome are investigated.
Closing date for applications:  • Location: Halle two PhD Students (m/f)
Within the DFG funded priority programme (PP) „Rhizosphere spatiotemporal organisation – a key to rhizosphere functions“ (http://www.ufz.de/spp-rhizosphere/) we are seeking for two motivated PhD students (m/f). This sub-project aims at exploring the relevance of root growth and related soil structure formation for spatiotemporal patterns of chemical and biological properties and emergent system functions. The project covers a broad mix of methods ranging from soil physics and plant nutrition to 3D imaging and image processing in order to study plant-soil interactions in laboratory and field experiments.
Closing date for applications:  • Location: Halle Master thesis (m/f)
A reliable assessment of the flooding hazard of river basins is crucial for many
disciplines ranging from water resources management to urban planning and
the insurance industry. However, the stochastic character of streamflows
makes this a difficult task, particularly when long series of observed discharge
data are not available. New methods promise to increase the reliability of the
estimates of flood magnitude and frequency, especially in conditions of data
scarcity, by exploiting a new conceptualization of hydrological processes.
This thesis work aims at identifying key climatic and landscape controls
on flooding potential of river basins, in order to develop a tool to assess
if available data series are long enough to provide reliable estimates of the
underlying hazard.

Brominated flame retardants can be converted in the light to a number of potentially more toxic transformation products. In a collaboration with the Swiss federal Institute of Technology ETH Zürich we synthesised some of these products.
