Ensuring Good Scientific Practice at the UFZ
With regard to current examples of evidently scientific misconduct within the national and international science community, the large research institutes and organisations in Germany have drafted Principles for Ensuring Good Scientific Practice. Based on these guidelines, the rules of this practice, which are internalized and followed by the overwhelming majority of scientists, should be made explicit. Furthermore, procedures that determine how to deal with allegations of actual or suspected scientific misconduct must be institutionalized.
With implementation of the framework conditions of the Helmholtz-Association, for the UFZ the Executive Management and the Scientific and Technical Council (WTR) in 2002 have declared Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice which have been revised in 2014:
With respect to questions dealing with good scientific practice as well as scientific misconduct the Scientific and Technical Council (WTR) for the duration of four years elects two experienced scientists as ombudspersons.
