Module 2: Cropping systems of important bioenergy plants

Aim of the module

Simulation of relevant annual or perennial bioenergy crops regarding possible yields and different ways of utilisation and conversion, impacts on land use, their effect on atmosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere as well as on trade-offs (fuel vs. food) for the region of Central Germany (Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia)

Approach

Using the biogeochemical model DayCent coupled to the land use model SITE we will investigate the impact of different cropping systems on the landscape. Simulations will be performed for several scenarios (climate change, demographical change and future developments of Central Germany) to cover a broad band of possible developments in the region. The simulation period will cover the years 2010-2050.

Land use and land cover are based upon the CORINE LC 1990 und CORINE LC 2006 map. These maps are being corrected with the help of regional land cover statistc and  ATKIS. These corrected maps serve as starting map (1990) and reference map (2006).
Simulations will be performed for four different land use change scenarios until 2050.
