Research interests
I am interested in plant population ecology and community ecology, with particular focus on ecological genetics, interspecific interactions, biological invasions, and the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning.
Projects
Microevolution and ecological processes
- The role of evolutionary processes during biological invasions: case studies on the invasive ornamental plants, Mahonia aquifolium and Buddleja davidii
- The evolutionary impact of land use: quantitative genetic diversity and phenotypic selection of grassland plants in the Biodiversity Exploratories (funded by the DFG - German Research Foundation)
Interspecific interactions
- Effects of invertebrate herbivory on composition, diversity and dynamics of herbaceous plant communties
- The role of soil microbes in plant invasions: inhibition at home and facilitation away? (NSF grant to Ray Callaway and John Maron, University of Montana)
Biodiversity and ecosystem functioning
- Linking above-ground and below-ground processes: effects of tree and litter diversity on ecosystem functioning (the Kreinitz Tree Diversity Experiment)
- Effects of biological invasions and generalist herbivory on plant diversity and functioning of grassland ecosystems
