Dr. Michaela Hein

Curriculum Vitae

Michaela Hein is working as manager of UFZ research topic “Chemicals in the Environment” and its Integrated Projects “Controlling Chemicals’ Fate ” and “Exposome”. She studied biology at the University of Bayreuth and completed her PhD at the University of Bayreuth and Max-Planck-Institute for Biogeochemistry Jena, studying nitrogen transformations in humus layers of spruce and beech forests in Europe. She gained first experience in science management at the Institute for Energy and Environment gGmbH as project manager of the EU-funded project BioNorm. In 2005, she joined the UFZ to manage the EU-funded project MODELKEY at the Department of Effect-Directed Analysis. In 2010, she moved to the Department of Bioanalytical Ecotoxicology for coordinating research in Helmholtz’ research programmes .

Michaela Hein’s professional interests focus on

  • Interfacing knowledge across research teams and programmes
  • Building strategic research cooperation
  • Efficient networking in interdisciplinary research
  • Facilitating stakeholder communication to bridge developments in science and chemicals regulation
