Welcome to Leipzig!
Leipzig is a vibrant and extra-ordinary city in a dynamic landscape. Its urban forest is unique and the parks and green spaces are of particular quality. With a population of about 500000 inhabitants, it is the largest city in East Germany next to Berlin.
As an area that has been polluted by heavy carbon-chemical industry and as a landscape that has been devastated by extended open pit mining in the second half of the last century, Leipzig has undergone a severe social and economic development since the German unity in 1990. The Leipzig region is now an example to demonstrate remarkable landscape changes and case studies for positive developments: more than 1200 ha of mostly near natural urban forests and 120 ha of urban parks with historic value; many examples of new strategies for urban green management of former derelict land and green revitalization of military areas.
Leipzig can offer a location of nature, culture and economic feasible place. It is well connected to other locations in Europe via airport, train-connection or highways. Well-priced hotels with high standards and remarkable cuisine in the near of the conference venue as well as other low-budget accommodations. A good public transport system allows you to make a short trip to visit the city centre.
